Will a Bioethanol Stove be right for me?

Lots of people have no real knowledge of Bioethanol and what it entails or what the benefits are. So let’s see if one of our lovely Bioethanol stoves could be right for you.

Our stoves are all antique and come in a variety of designs and colours (always the original enamel if they are enamelled) so there is likely to be something for anyone, whether you live in a modern or more traditional house. We have Arts and Crafts, Art Deco, Art Nouveau styles and they change frequently. They were made and designed at a time when people took great pride in their work and it shows in the quality.

So once you have decided on a particular stove based on its aesthetic, then you need to know it will fulfil your heating requirements: Do you want it for occasional use or everyday use? Is it going to be the main source of heating in that room? Will it give out enough heat? Is it expensive to run? Where do I source the fuel?

These are all valid questions. Bioethanol can be used all day every day but, unless you have a one of our large 3 litre boxes in your stove which burn for approx 12 hours you will need another Bioethanol box so that you can replace a hot box with a newly filled cold box when it runs out. The vast majority of our clients use them in the evening which usually means one fill of the Bioethanol box, so no swapping of boxes required. Our stoves give out 3-3.5 kW of heat so make quite an impact on the average room. They are also great on chilly Spring and Autumn nights when it’s not cold enough to put the central heating on.

The cost of running is around 65p-80p an hour dependent on supplier and quantities bought so for 3-3.5kW output that’s very reasonable. We tend to use Ekofuel for our fuel. They have good quality fuel and offer free, next day delivery.

The most important consideration should still be the eco credentials and Bioethanol definitely has good ones. It is made from wheat, maize and other food stuffs, so no nasty fossil fuels; it gives out no particulates and is said to be more or less carbon neutral as the carbon dioxide emitted during burning is offset by the amount the plants absorbed during growth.

So there’s plenty of things to consider when buying a Bioethanol stove. Give it some thought, it may be the best decision you ever made.
