How expensive is Bioethanol to use?
With constant fluctuations (lately, very significant ones) in energy prices one of our most asked questions is “How much does it cost?” Bioethanol is made from foodstuffs like maize and wheat so it is not at the vagaries of the fossil fuel market which largely relies on the world oil barrel price which as we have seen over the last 24 months varies considerably depending on what is going on in the world. The supplier that we buy from, www.ekofuel.org seem very consistent with their pricing and quality and offer next day delivery free and at the moment it is around £2.50 a litre dependent on the quantity you buy from them. A litre will burn for approximately 4 hours and give out 3-3.5 kW per hour so you can see it is much cheaper than other forms of heating and really quite economical for the amount of heat you are getting. If you don’t know what 3 kW is then if you are of a certain age and you will remember the electric fires which had bars which heated up, one bar was 1 kW and I don’t know about you but we were never allowed 3 bars on! So all in all, if you add up all the advantages of no installation or maintenance cost, no chimney sweeping and the cost of the fuel, as well as being the environmental choice, bioethanol is a financial winner.
